I just finished reading “Newlyweds” by Nell Freudenberger and I absolutely loved it. Thank you to my dear friend Lorrie who recommended it. We normally like the same books, though not always (also the same foods, movies, television shows, clothes, etc.) Lorrie, I can’t wait to see you in warm sunny Florida tonight! Yay!!!
Anyway, back to “Newlyweds”. This novel is about a young woman (Amina) who grows up in Bangladesh, an only child. Her family is poor and searching for a way to a better life. Amina and her mother devise a plan for her to find a husband in the United States, and they go online to begin their quest.
The man they focus on (George) lives in Rochester, New York (poor Amina! Rochester is so cold after Bangladesh). The book describes life in Bangladesh, cultural differences and religious differences. Amina strives to bring her parents back to Bangladesh where they too can live safer and more prosperous lives.
The book is fabulous. You will devour it like I did. You will be sorry when you finish (I am). It can be difficult to find a great read, and this is definitely one of them. Buy it now and get ready to sit back and love every single page.
