Film Review: “To Rome With Love”

We saw Woody Allen’s new film, “To Rome With Love”, this weekend. I didn’t like it.

Yes, Rome is gorgeous, Yes, Woody Allen is funny playing his consistent role of neurotic Jewish New Yorker, afraid of flying, germs, etc. And his film wife, Judy Davis, was fabulous. The rest of the cast was unattractive (unusual for Allen) and uninteresting. Even Penelope Cruz, playing a top Roman prostitute, was not engaging.

I thought the movie was extremely slow, even though the showtime was only 101 minutes (and that does not mean one hour and one minute — you know who I’m talking to!). I was antsy and couldn’t wait for it to end.

My daughter and husband enjoyed it though, so I do have to give it two thumbs up and one thumb down, to be fair.

If you must see it, I recommend waiting for OnDemand or Netflix. Save your money. It really isn’t worth it.
