How Much Does It Cost? But How Much Is It Worth?

It costs a lot more than five cents to make a nickel, yet we keep producing them.  I suggest getting read of pennies, nickels and dimes.  Who needs them anymore? Most people are using their cash cards or credit cards anyway, and the little change seems like a thing of the past.

Yesterday I received a check in the mail for twelve cents.  It was from Allstate Insurance Company, for a car that I haven’t leased in over a year.  How much time did it take for them to figure out that they owed me twelve cents? How much did the check and additional paperwork that they sent me cost Allstate? And let’s not forget the envelope and the postage! Surely the twelve cents that they refunded me cost much more than twelve cents.  Had they emailed me I would have told them to save the trees and keep the money, or, better yet, take all of these tiny amounts and donate them to charity.

Now I’m wondering what to do…

Should I make a special trip to the bank to deposit the twelve cent check? Should I wait until I have another check to deposit and add this one to that transaction? Should I just throw it in the garbage? (Can’t do that really because it goes against my religion.  I am still one of those people who actually bends down to pick up a penny if it’s heads up.)
