I visited the new condos at the Jean Nouvel building at 100 Eleventh Avenue today. They are super sleek — all white — they reminded me of Woody Allen’s “Sleeper”, but many years later. The apartments have huge windows with gorgeous views of Chelsea Piers and the Hudson River in the Western facing units.
These apartments are more like modern hotel suites than apartments. They seem best suited for empty nesters or pied a terre buyers, as the closets and storage space in the kitchens are quite minimal.
Everything is white, from the floors throughout, to the bathroom fixtures, to the kitchens.
The $22 million A Penthouse is quite magnificent. Though it’s only a tad over 4,600 square feet inside it feels much bigger. You could almost get lost inside. Upstairs there is a huge private roof space which was a bit underwhelming, though the views were spectacular.
If I had $22 million to spend I probably wouldn’t buy this unit, though if the apartment didn’t have the upstairs outdoor space and was $12-15 million it would be a lot more appealing.
I have been pining over this building since it went up. After visiting I no longer want to live there — I felt the same way after visiting Superior Ink — so that’s a good thing, since none of the apartments are really affordable anyway… unless you’re a billionaire that is.
If you want to buy one let me know.
