I had wanted to see this movie when it was in theatres but I’m glad I waited for On Demand, because it really wasn’t worth the price of admission. Even $4.99 was probably more than I should have paid, but you never know these things until you have already clicked “Yes” on your remote control.
Nicole Kidman is usually great, but she wasn’t here. Her sister seemed terribly miscast. Her husband, played by Aaron Eckhart, probably gave the best performance overall, which isn’t saying much.
The topic is sad and interesting: a couple lose their precious four year old son in a freak accident and are dealing with the aftermath. 80-90% of all couples separate after such an event, and this couple is hanging on by a thread.
Despite the interesting subject matter, the film is slow moving and dull. It is filmed nicely, but that’s about all I can say in favor of it. Oh, and Aaron Eckhart’s body looks good. Sandra Oh plays a small but cute role where she is a lot softer than usual.
I give it two thumbs down. Sorry “Rabbit Hole”, but I just can’t recommend you.
