Last night we ate with friends at Perilla, at 9 Jones Street in the West Village. The place is pretty and was very full.
They have a smart bar menu, with items like Duck Fat Popcorn for $3. I think all places with a bar should serve little bar appetizers like that. They can make a little money on them instead of serving a free bowl of nuts or olives.
The food was pretty good. We had the calamari salad which was served with crispy watercress, which was delicious! There was a soft shell crab appetizer that was yummy too. The baby romaine salad with sliced plums and bee pollen (that’s a new one) vinagrette was great too.
I didn’t like the entrees as much as the appetizers, but I almost never do. However, the potato croquettes that came with the steak were incredible and I piggishly ate two. That equalled an extra five minutes on the treadmill this morning and I probably still have to work the second one off, but it was totally worth it.
There were four of us at dinner and we give it four thumbs up.
