There’s light at the end of the tunnel

Great news! While I was sitting at my desk this morning (alas, back in NYC and working again… the beaches of Cabo are almost a blurred memory already), I noticed something very, very exciting on my calendar.

My favorite day of the year is this Sunday.  What is it, you ask?

It’s not my birthday,

Not Groundhog’s Day (though I do like that one as it predicts whether winter will end shortly),

Not my anniversary,

Not Valentine’s Day…

Okay, you get the picture…

It is:

The beginning of Daylight Savings Time!!!

Yay!

You will hear mumblings and grumblings all weekend about a lost hour of sleep, but don’t listen to those naysayers.  The clock goes forward one hour on Saturday night which means that we will have an extra hour of daylight at the end of every day again beginning this Sunday!

Winter is ending.

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.

Soon we will be wearing running shorts and tanks again, and pounding the pavement in Central Park or along the Hudson River, rather than miserably watching the clock on the treadmill in our darkened basement gyms.

Shortly we will be dining outside again, enjoying the exhaust fumes from passing taxies.

Before too long we will be driving out to the Hamptons again, or to the Jersey Shore, or up to Woodstock, to enjoy long warm weekends with family and friends, resplendant with barbecues and bike rides.

I may actually get to put my Happy Light away for the summer.  We shall see.  I’ll keep you posted on that one.

Just don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to sleep on Saturday night.  Sleep in on Sunday if you must, but be happy.  It is not the loss of an hour of sleep.  It is the beginning of Spring, bringing:

Longer days,

More sunlight,

Warmer temperatures,

Less clothing,

Light at the end of the tunnel.
