I was watching “Regis and Kelly” this morning while I was on the treadmill at the gym and Russell Brand was filling in for Regis. I was surprised to find that:
Russell Brand is actually smart!
He is extremely funny and quick on his feet, but he’s also well spoken and bright. I had wondered what Katy Perry was doing with him, but I sort of get it now. He may be the whole package after all.
I had this picture of Russell Brand as a pale drug-addled British comedian, and I worried for cute little Katy Perry — so much younger, so naive perhaps. Would Russell return to his earlier ways and take her down with him? I hoped not.
He seems pretty together. He is very pale — that is true — but some people like that look (I’m not one of them, but I’m sure his skin will thank him for it when he reaches my age). He practices yoga. He’s in great shape, if you like skinny. He’s a vegetarian (won’t take fish oil he says because he doesn’t like the idea of the poor fish having their oil squeezed out and then swimming around all wrinkly). Funny, right?
I like him. I think I’ll go see him in “Arthur” this weekend if I can get my men to agree. I loved him in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him to the Greek” and the early reviews are loving him in this latest role.
You know he’s actually kind of sexy. Even Kelly was a bit flustered this morning, and it’s usually only Anderson Cooper who gets her going in “that” way. Russell could be a contender for the Regis slot after all. Right now I give one vote to Anderson and one to Russell.
